Arena Savoy Lecture: A view from the top, at The Savoy, London.

Kate Nicholls to headline the Arena Savoy lecture as the industry and UK prepares for Brexit

On the evening of Wednesday 20 March 2019, just nine days before Britain is due to the leave the EU, Kate Nicholls, CEO of UKHospitality, will headline the Arena Savoy Lecture: A view from the top, at The Savoy, London.

At what will be a crucial time for the hospitality industry, and indeed the country, Kate will look at the latest Brexit developments and lead an important debate on what it means for the UK’s £130bn hospitality sector. As we enter uncharted territory, she will also explain the role and goals of UKHospitality in the months ahead.

Armed with in-depth insights from regular meetings with Government, Kate will discuss the political process and likely next steps as we exit the EU and enter the next phase of Brexit planning. Kate will touch on core issues such as food security and supply, tariffs quotas and prices, and labour supply and migration. She will also explain what UKHospitality is doing to represent and support businesses across all sectors and how the industry can work together during changing and challenging times.

Andrew Selley, the Chief Executive of Bidfood, will join Kate to share his opinions and approach during these uncertain times.

Food supply and prices are a major potential issue with Brexit and as Chief Executive of Bidfood, one of the largest food wholesalers in the UK, and Chairman of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, Andrew is well placed to discuss the challenges and opportunities ahead. 

A view from the top:

The debate will open further, as other industry leaders take to the stage and give their views in a panel discussion chaired by James Bielby, the Chief Executive of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors. Influential names from across the sectors will join James, Kate and Andrew to give their differing opinions and approaches to the unprecedented political and economic situation.

Topics to be discussed include the challenges and opportunities Brexit brings, running a successful business in times of change and uncertainty and how the industry can work together to make the best of Brexit.

“The hospitality sector and UK businesses in general are facing instability unprecedented in recent memory,” comments Kate Nicholls. “If we want to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities ahead, it is vital that we share our collective wisdom. I am honoured to speak at this year’s Arena Savoy Lecture to highlight the work UKHospitality is doing to support its members and the wider sector, and I am looking forward to hearing from other business leaders.”
