WEEE Recast -Orgalime’s final position paper on the WEEE recast proposal
Orgalime will be submitting the position paper to the European Commission, the Czech Council Presidency and the incoming Swedish Council Presidency and the Rapporteur, MEP Florenz, in the European Parliament during the next working days.

The incoming Swedish Presidency has announced the following tentative timeline for further discussions and negotiations on WEEE and RoHS:
· Council working group meeting: 7/8 July and 16/17 July 2009
· Depending on progress in the EP, the Swedish Presidency aims at finalising negotiations on both directives, but at least arrive at a first reading agreement on one of the proposals by the end of 2009 (Environment Ministers are supposed to meet on 22.12.2009). For the moment, we have been told that it may be more feasible to arrive at a first reading agreement (and thereby final adoption of the recast directive) on the RoHS recast proposal, while for WEEE “only” a political agreement may be reachable by the end of the year to be followed by a second reading (under co-decision) in 2010.
