WEEE Scope - DG Environment response. Commercial equipment is not covered by the term 'Household'

Following the EFCEM letter to DG environment (EFCEM Klaus Koegler October 2009) we have received the following response from Klaus Koegler, Head of Unit, stating that the term 'Household' does not include commercial catering equipment.

DG Environment reply to EFCEM

A many of you will know this is a major concession by the Commission after many years of intensive lobbying by both CESA and EFCEM on this matter.

In many cases the transposition into member state law does not include commercial catering - it assumes that commercial catering equipment is included under household. - We believe this to be the case in the UK

CESA is writing to the Minister Ian Lucas MP, calling for a meeting to discuss the matter.

I will keep you informed of developments
